A.
Our starting and ending point at Seabird Marina. B. Johnston Key anchorage. The additional track to the east was an attempt to find better protection from South winds. Turned out the wind direction wasn't a factor in our original anchorage so we went back. We have anchored here several times in the past and is one of our favorite places to anchor. C. Anchorage in Jewfish Basin. Had trouble the last visit when trying to anchor with the fortress anchor. Some grassy spots make it difficult to set the fortress anchor, but our newer CQR anchor set with no problems. D. Found a shorter way to Key West via Calda Channel. The only shallow part was the entrance. Once in the channel most cruising boats would find plenty of water. E. Boca Grande Key was a great place to anchor. Good protection from SE winds. Set two anchors due to current and width of the channel. Charts are not accurate due to Hurricane Wilma. Channel and bars appear to be in a different location. F. Entrance to Lakes Passage. We went out Southwest Channel and returned via Lakes Passage. Some three foot depths were encountered. G. Buchanan Key was a nice secluded place to ride out a cold front that came through. Caught a silver sea trout on the way to Islamorada from here. Batteries in the camera were dead so there are no pictures. |
